EA Makes a Mint on Battlefield 1943
Despite having to share the revenue with Sony and Microsoft, EA's downloadable WWII shoot has been a roaring succeeder.
Battleground 1943 was one of the quickest moving digital-only products that Xbox Live and PSN had ever so seen, selling more than 600,000 units in its initial two weeks. Unsurprisingly, this has meant both very good things for EA's bank balance, as CFO Eric Brown disclosed at a league in Novel York.
The Second World War taw shipped with trio maps – with a fourth unlocked scarce a week later when players collected a collective 43 million kills – and cost around $15 to buy on Xbox Live and PSN. Brown said that BF1943 had generated $16 jillio in tax revenue, after Sony and Microsoft had taken their respective cuts. Brown didn't go into quite as much detail about how so much BF1943 had cost Ea to make, but same that it was in the individualist-digit millions.
Assuming that entirely the costs of getting the game to market are included in that totality – which might not be the case, as Brown might be keeping strange costs, same whatever advertising or marketing, separate – EA is sounding at a profit of at the least $5 – 6 million. Brown besides known the success of its different downloadable products, like FIFA's ultimate squad mode, and said that he likely digital sales to score for a twenty percent of EA's revenue for the financial year.
This succeeder testament sure promote Ea to make more smaller-scale, low price point games. It might even be a style for EA to exam the waters on riskier IPs like a relaunch/continuation to Mirror's Edge without having to commit to a full, sixty buck a pop, game.
